One of those ways is to reduce readmissions. After all, it takes fewer resources and less money to treat patients once rather than twice. 3 in 4 hospitals hit with readmission penalties – what can you do about it?

75 percent of hospitals were hit with Medicare penalties for high rates of preventable readmissions for fiscal year 2016.

Nearly one in five Medicare patients is readmitted within 30 days of hospitalization, often for preventable causes, and the nationwide cost of preventable readmissions under Medicare alone has been pegged at $17 billion, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
