At Primaris, quality is at the core of who we are and what we do. That’s why when we take an active role in Healthcare Quality Week – presented by the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) – it’s important to point out both our history and our ongoing commitment to quality.
Perhaps the most significant way to demonstrate our involvement with quality improvement is by showcasing some of our team members who have displayed their commitment to quality in healthcare by earning their Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification.
The CPHQ is the only accredited certification in the profession of healthcare quality. It incorporates the body of knowledge in the healthcare quality profession, which includes:
- strategic and operational roles in management and leadership
- information management, including design and data collection, measurement and analytics, and communication
- performance/quality measurement and improvement, including planning, implementation and evaluation, and training
- strategic and operational tasks in patient safety
While all Primaris employees are dedicated to quality in healthcare, we are proud to have numerous individuals who have taken their commitment to the next level. Please take a moment to learn a little more about them.
Dorothy Andrae, MHA, BSN, RN, CPHQ
Dorothy has more than 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. She is currently the state program Director for Missouri’s portion of the TMF-QIN work. As the Director, Clinical Operations for Primaris, she is responsible for regional consultations related to quality improvement in healthcare, including technical assistance and capacity building for electronic health records, information technology, and collaborative activities and implementing the chronic care model. She is also a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer and has a LEAN in Healthcare certification. Her past experience inclues, but is not limited to: Chief Operating Officer for the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), a national consultant for QuadraMed, and a Case Manager for St. Mary’s Health Center. She also pioneered the development of outreach activities and the admitting nurse role, in addition to providing cardiovascular and intensive care nursing for Boone Hospital.
Deborah Finley, MPA, LNHA, CPHQ
Deborah's entire career has been devoted to improving the quality of services provided to Missouri’s senior population. As Director, Special Projects for Primaris, she has over 20 years’ experience in CMS Healthcare Quality Improvement Projects involving physician offices and nursing homes. She has managed health care quality projects for health-acquired conditions in nursing homes such as pressure ulcers, antipsychotic medication reduction and reducing hospitalizations, as well as the development of QAPI plans. She has directed programs assisting physicians to select, implement and use electronic health records for patient care and population health management. She is the treasurer of the state’s culture change coalition (MC5).
Bob White, BA, PT, CPHQ
Bob has worked in the healthcare industry for over 30 years in both direct patient care and management/administration. As a Program Manager, Clinical Operations, he has established strong, long-term professional relationships with hospital leadership across the state of Missouri. He has worked several years with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and their National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), in assisting hospitals with Healthcare –Associated Infection Prevention initiatives. He has also served as a consultant on projects focusing on preventable hospital readmissions, and hospital quality metric reporting. In addition to his clinical credentials, he is also an Associate Member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).
Peggy Neale-Lewis, RN, BA, CPHQ
Peggy is a true innovator for quality improvement with her more than 40 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She was one of the first professionals in mid-Missouri to become certified in healthcare quality in 1991. She went on to receive her Leadership Certification in long-term care. She now uses her background in a variety of healthcare settings implementing quality improvement services as Project Manager at Primaris, working with nursing homes. She provides tools and resources based on quality improvement principles within a person-centered care framework. She also volunteers as the President for the Missouri League of Nursing.
Cathy Barnes, BS, CPHQ
Cathy has more than 30 years’ experience in healthcare, most recently dedicated to performance improvement and clinical quality. She has facilitated many teams in the healthcare setting utilizing lean and six sigma methodologies. She has experience with abstraction and data management for national data registries, including the American College of Cardiology National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR), for CathPCI, ACTION and the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) Adult Cardiac registry. This supports her current role at Primaris, quality measures abstractor.
Susan Gonzalez, RN, CPHQ
Susan has more than 35 years’ experience in the healthcare field, ranging from clinical practice in medical-surgical, neurological and neuro-surgical nursing to project management. Ms. Gonzales has extensive experience in the field of quality management and performance improvement. As a senior clinical quality specialist for a large national health plan, Ms Gonzales managed local market implementation of patient safety and clinical quality activities and projects. She also has experience in HEDIS project management and measure-specific data abstraction, as well as customized medical record review/abstraction. This led her to her role at Primaris as a Quality Measures Abstractor.
As healthcare continues the transition to value-based care, more and more staff will need to place focus on quality. In fact, quality will need to be the priority for your entire organization.
